The Guimet museum was the grand project of Emile Guimet, an industrialist from Lyon. His vision was to create a museum to exhibit the religions of Egypt, and works of antiquity, especially from the asian countries. Travels to Egypt, Greece, a trip around the world in 1876 with stops in Japan, India, and China, allowed him to gather an important collection that he would exhibit in Lyon from 1879.
